Hydrodynamic Behaviors and Geochemical Evolution of Groundwater for Irrigation in Yaoba Oasis, China

The Yaoba Oasis is an irrigated cropland entirely dependent on groundwater; previous investigations (1980–2015) revealed over-abstraction of groundwater and deteriorating quality. For further exploring the hydrodynamic behaviors geochemical processes during irrigation season, samples were collected analyzed using different techniques including classical statistics, correlation analysis, Piper diagrams, Gibbs diagrams. results indicated that Na+, K+, SO42− Cl− main ions in groundwater, which significantly correlated with TDS. water–rock interaction manifested by precipitation calcite dolomite dissolution rock salt gypsum as increase TDS related to evaporation. In addition, increasing complexity hydrochemical type caused rapid variation regime, evaporation, are subjected constraints salty water intrusion from desert lake infiltration return flow. Existing wells should limit overexploitation halt decline levels cut down reduce risk contamination restore ecological balance oasis.
